AIRPORT TRAVEL SAFETY

Beware of Unlicensed Airport Taxis

Japanese authorities warn travelers about unlicensed private cars offering paid rides (known locally as shiro-taku). Be cautious if someone approaches you inside the airport or parking area and offers a ride outside the official taxi system.

  • Use only the airport's official taxi rank or a reputable, confirmed app booking.
  • Do not follow unsolicited drivers into parking lots or private vehicles.
  • If someone offers a suspiciously cheap cash ride, decline politely and ask airport staff for help.
  • Confirm the estimated fare, airport pickup point and any expressway tolls before departing.
